JOB TITLE: Special Educational Needs (SEN) 1:1 Teaching Assistant
START DATE: September 2026
SALARY: SCP 7-10 (£9,546.95 - £10,013.76 actual)

CONTRACT TYPE: Temporary.  Part-time, Term-time only, 38 weeks. 15 hours a week – 3 hours every morning.  This contract is linked to the funding of the child.

The Role

We are seeking a dedicated 1:1 Teaching Assistant for a Reception-aged child with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP). You will support a wonderful pupil with Global Development Delay (GDD) to access the curriculum, build independence, and thrive in their first year of school.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support learning: Adapt early years foundation stage (EYFS) activities to match the child's developmental level.

  • Enable communication: Use creative communication methods and visual aids to help the child express themselves.

  • Promote independence: Guide the child through daily routines, transitions, and social interactions with peers.

  • Track progress: Work closely with the Class Teacher and SENDCo to monitor and record milestones against EHCP targets.

What We Are Looking For

  • Communication mindset: Knowledge of Makaton is highly desirable, but a strong willingness to undertake Makaton training is essential.

  • Creative thinker: Ability to think outside the box to find unique, engaging ways to connect and communicate.

  • Patient and resilient: Understanding of Global Development Delay and the patience required for repetitive learning.

  • Team player: Ready to collaborate with speech therapists, parents, and external professionals.

  • Flexibility: Ability to be flexible if the need arises.
