Year 6 Pulleys
Lesson: Design and technology
Class: Year 6 Year: 2024 - 2025
In DT, Year 6 explored the work of Archimedes, the famous Greek mathematician (c. 287 BCE – c. 212 BCE), who is often credited with developing and formalizing the use of compound pulleys. He applied mathematical principles to show how pulleys could be used to lift heavy loads with minimal effort—an idea that fascinated us!
Inspired by his work, we worked in small groups to design and build our own pulley systems. It was a fun and hands-on way to learn about forces, simple machines, and teamwork
