Summer 1 overview

Date: 13th Jul 2026 @ 1:34pm

This half term our topic has been “I Wonder What Came Before”. We have been learning all about different life cycles, including butterflies and bees. The children have had lots of fun exploring how living things grow and change.
We celebrated World Bee Day for a whole week with lots of exciting activities and learning opportunities all about bees and why they are so important. We also took part in No Pens Day, where the children enjoyed learning through speaking, listening, creativity and practical activities.
The children have shown great curiosity and enthusiasm throughout the topic and we are very proud of all their hard work!

We also spent time learning all about the birthday of the Christian Church and the story of Pentecost and the Holy Spirit. We did some lovely art work insprired by Judith Ann Braun and our display is lovely. We used fingerprints and nature to make our art.
In music, we explored many different instruments and sang lots of new songs.

In maths, we began looking at teen numbers and concentrated on learning our number bonds up to 5. How many ways can I make 5? We continued to count forwards and backwards and counting on from different numbers. We further consolidated the composition, representation, comparison and subitising of numbers 6 -10.

In literacy, we studied the book ‘The Gigantosaurus’ and found out all about different dinosaurs. We continued to work on our sentences with a focus on capital letters and full stops.. We know we have to re-read our writing to check that it makes sense.

In phonics, we made great progress! We started Phase 4 and the children are starting to trickier words with lots of different digraphs and trigraphs. We also started to incorporate these into our writing.
What a busy half term we have had again! We look forward to our final half term and we are excited for all of the lovely activities. Thank you, as always for your continued support
