Spring 1 review
Date: 10th Mar 2026 @ 2:51pm
Last half term we focused on 'What other people do'. It was a great half term and we considered the roles of others in the community and thought about what we might want to be when we are older. We had visitors from the police and fire service and even got to sit in a police car. We dressed up in costumes to represent our chosen career and all of the children looked amazing!
We had a fantastic afternoon at St Mary's Church and the children thoroughly enjoyed listening to Simon the Vicar telling us all about the church and what makes it a holy place. The children were so well behaved, and it was a privilege to walk them through the village where we spotted early signs of spring and all of the different landmarks such as churches, shops , bridges and the River Mersey.
To end the half term, we looked at how other people from different culture celebrate and studied Chinese New Year. We made Chinese dragons, did some Chinese singing and dancing and had a Chinese New Year festival.
In maths, we began counting to 20 and beyond (forwards and backwards) and began counting on from different numbers. We focused on the composition, representation, comparison and subitising of numbers to 6 -10. We also looked at height and length.
In literacy, we further developed our pencil control and letter formation and started to write some simple captions and sentences.
In phonics, we made great progress! We completed all of Phase 3 and the children are starting to read longer words with lots of different digraphs and trigraphs.
We ended the half term with a fantastic Valentines disco.
What a super busy half term we have had again! I am confident that next half term will be just as successful. As always, thank you for your continued support
