Year 6 SATs 2025 – What You Need to Know

As we move further into the academic year, preparations for the Year 6 SATs are well underway. These national tests are an important milestone for pupils and give both teachers and parents a clear picture of each child’s progress in reading, writing, and maths before they make the big move to secondary school.

Here’s everything you need to know about the 2025 SATs for Year 6 pupils.

Key Dates for SATs 2025

The Year 6 SATs will take place from Monday 12th May to Thursday 15th May 2025. It’s essential that all pupils are in school on time each day to help them perform at their best.

The schedule is as follows:

  • Monday 12th May – English grammar, punctuation and spelling (Paper 1 and Paper 2)

  • Tuesday 13th May – English reading

  • Wednesday 14th May – Mathematics Paper 1 (Arithmetic) and Paper 2 (Reasoning)

  • Thursday 15th May – Mathematics Paper 3 (Reasoning)

How Can Parents Support Their Child?

Here are a few practical ways to help at home:

  • Reading daily – Encourage your child to read a wide range of texts and discuss them together.

  • Practise mental maths – Quick-fire questions and times tables games can really help.

  • Establish a routine – Ensure your child is well-rested and has a quiet space for any practice they choose to do.

  • Stay positive – Encourage a healthy, calm attitude towards the tests. SATs are just one part of your child’s education journey.

Above all else, the tests do not define your child. They are a special, unique individual with more to offer the world than the marks they achieve on a test paper. That said, we want the children to show the best side of themselves and the commitment they show in trying to be the best they can be, is almost as important as the results they achieve.
